Yarn: Paintbox Simply DK (100% acrylic, DK weight / #3), 1 skein each of Color A and Color B (a lightweight scarf like this uses well under a full skein of each — check your total yardage before buying extra)
Hook: 5.5mm (US I-9)
Yarn needle, for weaving in ends and gathering the scarf ends

Gauge

Gauge isn’t critical for this project — it’s a drapey, lightweight scarf, not a fitted piece — but your hdc tension will affect the finished width. A 5.5mm hook with DK yarn gives a soft, open-ish fabric that drapes nicely rather than a stiff one.

Stitch Pattern

Row 1: With Color A, ch 21. Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across. (20 hdc, counting the turning ch-2 as the first hdc)

Row 2 and all following rows: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc), turn, hdc in each st across. (20 hdc)

Repeat Row 2 for the full length of the scarf, changing colors as shown below, until the piece measures 72″ and you’ve worked 180 rows total.

Tip: when changing colors, work the last yarn-over of the final stitch in the old color with the new color, so the color change sits cleanly at the top of the row.

Color Sequence

This scarf is worked as one long symmetric stripe sequence — the first seven color blocks, then a long center block, then those same seven blocks mirrored back to close it out. This is exactly the shape already loaded into the color visualizer above, so you can double-check your row counts as you go, or just play with different color combos.

Finishing

Gather the ends: At each short end of the scarf, thread a yarn needle with a length of matching yarn and weave it through all 20 stitches along that edge, close to the last row. Pull the yarn snug to gather the end like a drawstring, then knot securely and weave in the tail.

Add a tassel: At the gathered point of each end, attach one thick tassel to finish it off. (If you only pictured a single tassel rather than one per end, that’s an easy adjustment — just skip this step on the second end.)

Weave in any remaining ends, and your scarf is ready to wear.
